John [Jed] Davis

Jed is the founder of Brandspank, a consultancy specializing in Innovation and Brand Building and works closely with ZFC.
Jed has held senior Marketing and General Management positions with major multinationals including - H.J.Heinz (Director of Innovation, Category Managing Director Infant Feeding and Global Manager Convenience Meals) - The Mars Group (Marketing Sales Director Masterfoods and Marketing Manager Dog Food) and Carnation (Nestle) (Marketing Director) as well as buying, building and selling a successful business in Plastic Housewares branded Trent (in competition with Decor and Willow).
Jed has lead teams that originated some of Australia's favorite products and brands some of which have been launched internationally. Most notable are Dolmio, the MasterFoods Squeezemate innovation in Food Service, the Trend Microwave Egg Poacher and the Heinz Very range of Soups. He has radically revamped floundering Brands when they were in serious trouble, such as KanTong, Heinz Baby Food, Heinz Soups and GoCat and launched Smacko's in Australia.
Jed has developed an aggressive Portfolio Management concept of "Brand Roles" as a result of his extensive exposure to Multiple Brand Portfolios and is a firm believer in "competing with yourself".
At Mars - managing the Mars Petcare Dog Food portfolio and developing the Dolmio sub-brand portfolio.
At Heinz - setting up the multi-brand strategy for soup that enabled Heinz to take competitive share whilst protecting the base business, and YET.
At Carnation (Nestle) - he rationalized and collapsed a meaningless portfolio of Catfood brands to provide "focus" and resources to dramatically rebuild the GoCat brand.
His Global and international experience includes; Heinz - Global Manager Convenience Meals; Mars - Global Co-ordinator Dolmio & Pan Asian Strategist MasterFoods; Carnation (Nestle) - One of three members of the Pan European Petfood Rollout Team; and various trans-Tasman roles.
In a consulting capacity Jed works with clients such as Red Bull, MasterFoods, Heinz, the Visy Group (and their customers), Advertising Agencies George Patterson's and Nitro and aggressive SME's.
The thrust of Jed's work is about advising and assisting in the areas of -Growth leadership, Business Turnarounds, Product and Brand Development and rebuilding Flagging Brands & Portfolios.
Jed has also worked as a Market Researcher and in Advertising (where he worked on businesses as diverse as Data general, Beaurepaires, Denny's Restaurants, AAMI Insurance and Westpac (Bank of Melbourne). He has a Post. Grad. in Marketing, has lectured in Marketing Management at Monash/CIT and is a judge on the packaging Council of Australia awards.
Jed is a member of the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants, having started his career at Irish Young and Outhwaite (Chartered Accountants) then moving to management accounting roles at Gillette.
